How I Shifted My Mindset About Worth and Data
There was a day not too long ago when I felt like I had failed myself. My business data wasn’t matching the effort I was putting in. My podcast numbers weren’t climbing as I had hoped, my email stats weren’t where I wanted them to be, and I let those numbers get to me.
I sat on the couch in a mood—upset, frustrated, and letting the TV watch me instead of the other way around. I was deep in my feelings, wondering if I was even capable of building what God put on my heart.
Then, something clicked: Take a break from the data.
I realized I was letting numbers dictate my mood, my energy, and even my belief in myself. That’s when I decided to shift my focus. Instead of obsessing over metrics, I chose to pour myself into creating. I reminded myself of the “why” behind my work: to serve, to uplift, and to encourage.
But the real work wasn’t just stepping away from the data. It was reframing my mindset about where my value lies.
Here’s how I did it:
Identifying the Root Belief
I had to be honest with myself and recognize that I was tying my worth to results. I believed that if my numbers weren’t growing, it meant I was failing. That belief was keeping me stuck.Reaffirming My True Worth
I turned to God’s Word and reminded myself that my value isn’t in numbers, titles, or achievements. My worth comes from Him. The gifts, talents, and creativity He’s given me aren’t measured by metrics—they’re an extension of who He’s created me to be.Focusing on What I Can Control
Instead of chasing numbers, I shifted my energy to what I could control: creating meaningful content, connecting with my audience, and staying true to my message.Celebrating Progress, Not Perfection
I began to celebrate small wins: an email opened, a heartfelt reply, or the joy I felt after creating something I loved. Progress became my focus, not perfection.Redefining Success
Success for me now looks like showing up authentically, trusting God’s timing, and staying committed to the vision He’s given me.
This shift didn’t happen overnight. It took intentional work, prayer, and moments of stepping back to refocus. But the freedom I feel now is worth every step.
If you’re in a season where you feel defined by numbers or achievements, I encourage you to take a step back. Reflect on what truly matters to you. Your worth isn’t tied to what the data says—it’s rooted in who you are and the impact you make.
Keep creating, keep growing, and keep trusting. The numbers will come, but they’re just a part of the story—not the whole.
